The wearing of gloves has become one of the “five-point PPE” items on construction sites in the UK. Safety gloves can be purchased from many sources from the trading estate outlets such as Screwfix and Wickes to specialist shops and online safety equipment suppliers. It’s unlikely that you will get any advice so that you select the most appropriate hand protection from any of these sources although online sites usually enable you to filter their lists in some way.
Wouldn’t it be helpful if you could easily understand the type of gloves that you need for the activity that you or your workforce is carrying out? Do gloves need to protect against chemicals, cuts and abrasions, impact, or vibration? Do you need wrist or arm protection? For one arm or two?
As with all safety and health matters, you will be judged by your understanding of the applicable legislation if something goes wrong and there is an accident or long-term injury so it’s a good idea to understand the regulations that you need to consider.
We have designed a course that covers these topics and will give you a good grounding. It will teach you about safety data sheets and how to find and use them to determine what type of gloves are required for a specific chemical.
